Fontevraud 11

The RPV component track deals with field experience regarding material issues of the reactor pressure vessel and the pressurizer. Surveillance program, irradiation and thermal ageing management, manufacturing issues are some of the topics that will be covered in this track. You are invited to share your field experience with the Fontevraud community !

The Pressure vessel internals (PVI) topic adresses material degradation issues from field experience; expertise of ageing mechanisms and aging management strategies related to the lower and upper components of PVI. Contributions for main types of Light Water Reactors are expected  such as each participant will benefit from an updated overview on this theme. Different ageing mechanisms (hardening, embrittlement, irradiation creep, swelling, IASCC and wear) are considered in the topic. Through the large sharing of many operating and technical experiences, previous similar Fontevraud sessions have lead towards a better assessment of ageing monitoring of these components, so a large participation is encouraged.

The ‘Stainless Steel and Nickel-based alloys session’ will mainly address manufacturing and operational experience. The scope of the session will also include Research activities directly related to cracking prediction, mitigation and improvement of material and component performances.

Structural integrity of piping, pump and valve systems is important for safety and operability of nuclear plants and these components are ones of the major source of expense for nuclear power plant maintenance programs. The objective of this theme in Fontevraud 10 conference is to address field-experienced failures or degradation, detection of defects, components control, manufacturing and operational experience of piping, pumps and valves in order to share detailed gained experience in the causes and remedies for in-service failures, with a view to improving plant safety, operational life and maintenance costs.

The Steam Generator (SG) session addresses material degradations focusing in their causes that could lead to damage of this component, including tubes, SG pressure vessel and SG internals. Experience feedback from plants, in service inspection and detection of defects, remedial actions/maintenance solution, ageing management, manufacturing process and R&D on secondary and primary corrosion, fatigue, flow-assisted corrosion, wear, clogging of tube support plates, fouling of tube bundle, hard sludge on the top of tubesheet, and chemical cleaning, are an integral part of this session.

The Steam Water System (SWS) topic adresses material degradations that could lead to the unavailability of major components (e.g. condensers, moister reheaters, feedwater heat exchangers) of the Balance Of Plant (BOP). Consequences of such events could affect greatly the performance of the plant, directly through electricity production losses or through the impact of the duration of the repairs required on outages. Future contributors are invited to share their operating experience with the Fontevraud 10 community : degradation mechanism, non-destructive evaluation, repairing techniques, on-line monitoring, etc…)

This conference is aimed at Nuclear Steam Turbine Generator manufacturers, operators and experts regarding feedback, operating experiences and performance, reliability improvements.  Contributions describing results, analysis, development linked to major overhaul, damages, inspection techniques, monitoring, modernization of old components and implementation of new products are cordially invited for presentation at the conference

The Fuel and Control Rod Assembly Topics will address operational experience and material characterization for all the parts constitutive of Fuel Assemblies (Fuel rods, Structure, Springs…) and Rod Cluster Control Assembly (Control rods, Clusters…). The session will preferably focus on expertise of irradiated components and also mechanisms directly involved in their evolution (microstructure, corrosion, dimensional changes, failure…) during and after irradiation in reactors.

A special session dedicated to Civil Engineering infrastructures is organized on the theme of “Ageing of Concrete Infrastructures in Nuclear power stations. The session will include modelling, in-service inspection, maintenance and repair, instrumentation methods and safety assessment in view of long term operation. The session aims at sharing worldwide experience from academics, contractors, operators and regulators to achieve long-term operation.

This topic concerns every field experience gained through the use of non-metallic materials (sealants, paint and coatings, thermoplastics, composites, etc.). It aims to bridge a gap between users of this wide range of materials which play an increasing role in various components of Nuclear Power Plants and are exposed to a wide range of operating conditions. The focus will be on operational experience and new applications.

Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) is a slow yet active degradation phenomenon affecting hot water systems. FAC is causing generalized thickness loss which can lead to leakage or at worst to pipe rupture: security and production are directly affected in case of an event. Plant life extension, flexible operating or power uprate make it even more important to consider as firstly non-concerned areas come into management scope. These new operation modes are challenging for prediction softwares and operational experience mainly based on stable full-power running. Future contributors are invited to share their challenges and operating experience: wear prediction, new events, material choices, non-destructive evaluation, film forming amine, etc.
